Introduction — a community hub where faith meets action

For over three decades, Al-Noor Institute has turned belief into action on the streets of South London. Today we are growing into something greater: a permanent home for a community that feeds the hungry, teaches the Qur'an, mentors the next generation, and welcomes everyone — Muslim and non-Muslim, of every background — through the same open door.

Our Mission

Our mission is to inspire faith rooted transformation by making Quranic knowledge accessible, developing women and young leaders, supporting emotional and physical wellbeing, strengthening relationships between generations and responding compassionately to people in need.

We aim to help every member of our community become spiritually grounded, emotionally resilient, professionally empowered and confident in serving others.

Our Vision for 2029

To become South London’s leading Shia community hub, where faith genuinely meets action and lives are transformed through Quran centred living, professional excellence and compassionate service inspired by the Prophet and the Ahlulbayt.

Four Pillars.

Seven Connected Services.

Our work is organised around four strategic pillars that support the complete development of individuals and communities.

Faith and Knowledge

Helping people understand and apply the teachings of the Quran in their everyday lives.

  • Quran Transforms: Accessible Tafsir circles, Quran literacy, Qiraat, Tajweed and language learning delivered through welcoming in person and online sessions.

  • Faith in Action: Creative workshops, ethical workplace guidance, community conversations, exhibitions, podcasts and activities inspired by Islamic values.

Care and Service

Providing practical, emotional and spiritual support when people need it most.

  • Food Drive: Weekly halal food assistance, warm meals, hygiene essentials, clothing support and community food partnerships for individuals and families facing hardship.

  • Health and Wellness: Culturally sensitive mental health support, resilience sessions, elder gatherings, health screenings and confidential crisis assistance.

Shia Women’s

Leadership

Creating structured opportunities for women to develop spiritually, professionally and personally.

  • Fatimiyya Academy: Leadership development, Sister Circles, scholarly retreats, professional mentoring, career support and faith centred entrepreneurship coaching.

Mentorship and Development

Connecting knowledge, experience and ambition across generations.

  • Intergenerational Mentorship: Professional mentoring, civic engagement, youth development and reverse mentoring through which younger people help elders build digital confidence.

  • Life Skills Education: Practical workshops covering financial literacy, digital skills, employability, university applications, career development and everyday household skills.

Why Al Noor

Faith That Creates Meaningful Change

  • Quran Centred: Our work is guided by the teachings and values of the Holy Quran.

  • Ahlulbayt Inspired: We follow the example of compassion, justice and service shown by the Prophet and his household.

  • Community Led: Our programmes are created with the community and shaped by real local needs.

  • Women Led: We recognise female leadership as an essential part of community development.

  • Intergenerational: We bring together the wisdom of elders and the energy of younger generations.

  • Professionally Delivered: We combine volunteer dedication with strong governance, safeguarding and professional standards.
