In the name of Allah the most Beneficent & the most Merciful

Al-Noor Institute….The ‘New Dawn’

Who we are?

Al-Noor Institute is a registered charity (CIO 1181497) and community hub rooted in the Twelver Shia tradition and open to all. Since 1990 we have served South London through compassionate action — and today we are building a permanent home from which to serve for generations to come.

Faith in action

Our founding conviction is simple: that faith, lived fully, demands action in the world. It is a conviction we inherit from the Qur'an and from the example of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and his Ahlulbayt (AS) — above all from Imam Hussain (AS), whose stand at Karbala teaches that principled commitment to community transcends personal cost. That is what "Faith in Action" means to us, and it is visible every week in the meal we serve, the class we teach, and the neighbour we stand beside.

Rooted in faith, open to all

We are proudly and confidently a Shia Muslim institution. We are also, without contradiction, a service for everyone. Our Food Drive and community support are open to all in need — regardless of faith, background or circumstance — and our doors welcome Muslim, non-Muslim and interfaith visitors alike. Our programmes are offered in English, Arabic, Persian and Urdu, and our spaces welcome reverts, elders, youth, women and families equally.

Where we are heading

For much of our history we have served from temporary, rented spaces. Our next chapter is about permanence: we are working towards a permanent community home that will let us grow our services, deepen our impact, and serve South London not just for the next few years, but for the next few decades.
